Introduction
Most platforms require citations for factual claims. Missing or incorrect citations can cause quality failures. Check your specific project guidelines for citation requirements. This module builds speed and accuracy in fact-checking and citation.
3.1.1 The Citation Requirement
General Rule (verify against your project guidelines)
When citation is required, every factual claim should be verifiable with a cited source.
Factual Claims Include:
- Statistics and numbers
- Dates and events
- Scientific facts
- Historical information
- Definitions of technical terms
- Quotes from people or sources
Do NOT require citations:
- Obvious statements ("the sky appears blue")
- Opinions clearly marked as such
- The evaluation itself
The Speed Benchmark
Industry Standard: Find and format citations for 5 factual claims in 10 minutes.
This means: 2 minutes per citation maximum.
You need: Fast search skills + reliable source knowledge + quick formatting.
